Over the sea to Skye

We left Uist in the sun to arrive on Skye in the dull grey drizzle of the photo above.
"Over the sea to Skye" was a Victorian song about the same journey albeit in a smaller boat when Bonnie Prince Charlie on the run from Culloden escaped from Uist to Skye with Flora MacDonald sailing the boat.
Going back to my theme of connections, Robert Louis Stevenson wrote alternative lyrics to the song and the lighthouse on the Isle of May that we visit tomorrow was designed and built by his grandfather.
I have never quite understood why Skye is such a tourist destination. The Cuillins are indeed spectacular but the rest of the isle has a bleakness softened only by too many nasty bungalows. I am sure I have missed something.....
