Juno Beach

Today we went up to the Debarquement memorial just outside Arromanches. There is also a 360 degree cinema there, which consists of 9 large screens set on the walls. The film was a brief history of the Second World War, leading up to the D-Day Landings.

After this we drove along the coast and parked at what was Juno Beach, which was the beach that the Canadians landed on June 6th. This is quite special, as it was built through the efforts of the Canadian Vererans' Association. While it was not a huge museum, it was packed with information both on Canada and the part the Canadians played in the landings. It finished with a sixteen minute film which was very moving.

At this time of year, the beaches are pretty much deserted - ideal for the sand yachting which is going on in the picture. All the time, though, in the back of your mind, is the thought of the people who died here.
