Govan Angel

There has definitely been a Govan theme over the last four days. After the heavy rain of yesterday it was good to see the sun again.

This morning as I made my along Paisley Road, I could see the light shining on the Angel Building, which is on the the corner of Govan Road and Paisley Road West. This very grand building was designed by the architects, Bruce & Hay and was built in 1889, as Ogg Brothers Drapery Warehouse.

This is a much loved landmark in this area of Glasgow due to the golden angel which surmounts its south turret. The Angel can be seen from quite a distance, and makes a dramatic and striking shape against the skyline of the city. It is believed the sculptor was James Alexander Ewing.
