Purity, Truth, Love.

During the Industrial Revolutiom the availability of cheap ale and gin had been responsible for the breakdown of family life and industrial productivity amonst the working classes. In 1835 the temperence movement began and non alcoholic bars began to appear in every town and village to promote abstinence from ‘the demon drink'.
The Fitzpatricks – a successful family of Dublin herbalists established themselves in the North of England and at their peak successfully ran over 40 shops in the region. There is only one left now - in Rawtenstall - but you can buy their non-alcoholic products at a number of retail outlets, and on-line.
This is good stuff - and great as a hot drink in winter - but I'm not sure it can compete with the black stuff from Dublin, or the 'water of life' from north of the border :-)
