An exercise in alabaster

Wikipedia tells me that alabaster is "a stalagmitic limestone marked with patterns of swirling bands of cream and brown". I bought this little jar for my mother at a market in Egypt some years ago and as she has no further need for it I brought it out to Patagonia.
