marooned

A very easy sort of day today. I thought I'd wander back home after it along the Cowgate in case there was another wheelchair (or even the same one) just to the east of South Niddry Street as there was on this day last year but instead there was a large group of what can only be described as morons whirling umbrellas and dancing about underneath the tunnel beneath South Bridge. They were alternatively blocking both cars, the cyclists choosing the relative safety of the single-lane mostly bus-free road and pedestrians so I walked between them and the wall so that it was them at risk of being shoved into the path of a car rather than me. Some people were taking pictures of them but as they'd annoyed me I left them unphotographed. Not sure what it was in aid of... possibly a little early for studenty freshers' week flashmobbing stuff but probably something along those lines. For future reference they might choose to use a wider bit of road and pavement and pick one of either road or pavement users to impede, not both and not in a way which could put pedestrians at risk of car-damage on a stretch of road known for that sort of thing. Having some sort of thing displaying exactly what they're there for would be handy, too... if you're making a statement, don't forget to state it; if you don't you just look like an imbecile with an umbrella grinning imbecilically whilst endangering innocent passers-by.
