Carnival

Today was a bit of a lazy one, laying in due to not getting home until 1am last night/this morning, then wandering around Bridport shopping for waterproof clothing for the kids and birthday presents for my Nephews. Mr Lovely, so aptly named, treated me to a new waterproof coat which is lush. I'm so lucky to have such a kind and caring man by my side.

Armed with our new purchases, we made our way over to North Petherton to watch one of the local spectacles, the Somerset County Guy Fawkes Carnival Association parade. This is an absolutely spectacular carnival with floats decorated up like stage sets with lights and actors/dancers to entertain the waiting crowd. My parents have been bringing me to one of the carnivals, normally Bridgwater or Glastonbury, since I can remember. This year, due to other commitments, North Petherton was the only event we could all get to see.

We waited in the rain for a good couple of hours, so glad we all had the waterproof gear on. With hot soup to keep us warm and candy floss to keep the kids happy, the carnival eventually started, despite the rain, and we were not disappointed. Again so many people had gone to so much effort to entertain those who stand and watch. I am in awe of anyone who is on one of these tableau's. Despite all weather conditions, they still smile and dance. Some, on static tableau's, spend the whole carnival procession completely still and the winner of last nights event was a static display, depicting Les Miserables, though the camera lens didn't do it justice.

We finally got home at 11pm. Three very tired children and two exhausted adults!

Once the kids were in bed, we sat to relax and drink some wine, chatting to 2am - no telly, just laughter and nonsense!! Love that we can do that.

And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth,
"You owe me."
Look what happens with love like that.
It lights up the sky."
