Ratho remembers

Out of respect, my 'War!' series is taking a short break over Remembrance Sunday and Armistice Day. This picture shows the War Memorial in Ratho, a village just to the west of Edinburgh (it still falls within Edinburgh City Council district). Facing the camera is the list of the village's fallen in WW1. Given the size of the settlement in that era the list is shockingly long. On the other side of the memorial is the list from WW2. In the background can be seen Ratho Parish Church. There's also a Roman Catholic chapel in the village, probably due to the Irish navvies who worked on the Union Canal that passes Ratho.
