Edinburgh Bridge #12 George IV

George IV Bridge was built along the Cowgate from the South Bridge and was built roughly the same time as the King's Bridge (No 8) in 1824 and was designed by the same architect Thomas Hamilton. The bridge originally was some 300m long but only two spans are still in existence. The first , and the one in the blip spans the Cowgate and the second provides a access to the rear of the Sheriff Court (where the prisoners arrive and leave if they’re found guilty) but as with the South Bridge buildings were put up along side the bridge in the case of the George IV these are substantial public buildings The National Library of Scotland, Edinburgh’s Central Library and the home for the Registrar of Birth, Deaths and Marriages for Edinburgh.

Because of these large buildings there is little impression of going over a bridge and more of an elevated road if anything.
