Remembrance Day

Today people around the country have honoured and remembered our war dead, from all conflicts, at 11am with a two-minute silence. The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One.

My Dad was born in 1914, the year that terrible conflict began. He served in the RAF, flying as a navigator during WW2. Just post war he flew in the Berlin Airlift. He continued flying until the 1950s and retired from the forces in 1969. All those hours of flying are meticulously recorded in his Flying Log Book, which came to me when he died in 2007.
