Armistice Day

On the day we marked the anniversary of the end of the First World War, I took time to have a wee wander round at the Garden of Remembrance and the Cenotaph in Glasgow. Of course there are lots of wreaths from organisations, but the most touching are the ones left by family members, ranging from the bouquet from Mary in memory of her brothers Allan, Donald and John who died during WW2, Allan lost at sea aged 25 while serving with the Atlantic convoys, Donald was killed at age 22 at Monte Cassino and John died aged 19 in Normandy. And there are more recent ones too, like the wreath left by the family of Russell Beeston, who was shot and killed while serving in Iraq in 2003.

We will remember them.
