...Persimmon or Sharon fruit in English. Almost every garden round here has one. In the autumn the leaves turn a fiery red. By late autumn all the leaves have fallen off, leaving the squat orange fruit, which hang on the tree looking just like Christmas decorations. The fruit is much too sweet for me, but it is sold as a delicacy in Italian shops, each fruit individually wrapped in tissue paper.
