Contrasts

I have written many times about the contrasts we face in Mexico, I see them every time I venture from our apartment. Today, I experienced a supreme contrast within the walls of our complex. Our palms once again needed the dead fronds trimmed and the young coconuts removed. The previous time the task fell to a crew with ropes, boots, safety gear and a thoroughly North American approach. Today, our usual guy was back on the job. He had none of the above (save for a rope with which he hauled his machete from the ground to the top of the palm). Here he is 20 meters off the ground returning to earth after finishing his first palm. An hour later, three trees were cleared of debris and he was on his way to the next job. So fun to see such disparities.
