Belted Kingfisher

A very busy day with Edward going to Christmas bazaars. He got a bunch of cookbooks and I got jams, preserves, and some wonderful jarred peaches. A few baked goods found their way home, too. It was a lovely fall day. Very pleasant weather and much warmer than expected. On the way home we stopped at McKenzie Marsh to see who was hanging around. No herons or geese or turtles. A few ducks. And one chatty kingfisher far away who also chased off a mockingbird. This shot is a bit watercolour-like because it's cropped from a zoomed shot. They are so hard to get a good shot of. They tend to keep far away and move around a lot. It turned out pretty well. It might be the last time we see this species until spring as they migrate for open water during our winter.
