tasmanian pepperberries

An early start at the local farmers' market and with coffee in hand wandered around as the stalls set up.
It has been a while and there are a couple of new kids on the block, including Spice Fetish.

Who could resist mango salsa sprinkled with shichimi-togarashi or wattleseed icecream and pancakes.
Well not me, but the wow was pepperberries, Tasmannia lanceolata.
Entranced by the idea of northern hemisphere cloudberries, the pepperberry has a similar resonance.
Native to woodlands and rainforest gullies of Tasmania this mountain pepper can be added to curries and cheese and is exported to Japan as a wasabi flavour.

Needless to say, a few new pots on the spice shelves:)
