Haining Castle

This is Haining Castle. Originally built in the 1400s it is apparetly just being left to fall down, which seems a desperate shame.

I came across it when going for a short run along the Union Canal, heading towards Linlithgow. It is in the middle of the remains of a disused brickworks, just a hundred metres or so from the canal.

The building is quite unstable internally, so a fence was put up around it. Of course, that didn't last long and it is now possible to get into the castle without much difficulty... but I reckoned it would be much safer to stay outside.

On a technical note, this is an HDR photograph taken using my phone and an app called HDR Camera. It has been boosted a little using Photoshop, but given the contrast between the shadowed entranceway and the bright sky, I am rather impressed.
