Lapegeria rosea

Part of my role at the nursery, is to look after the customers and their orders.
Covering 13 acres, we have 9 polytunnels and over 5000 species, so occasionally, I need a little help in looking for a certain plant!

This afternoon was one of those occasions, so I enlisted Katie, who has never failed to answer any of my questions and readily shares her extensive knowledge of the plant world. She is a walking Wikipedia of the plant world!

'Wow'
she exclaimed and eagerly knelt down to further examine a rather unusual looking flower. 'Lapegeria rosea' she read aloud. 'This is very rare'

Originating from the forests of Chile, Lapegeria rosea is more commonly known as the Chilean bellflower.
Why is it so rare? Because the flowers are normally a deep pink and as you can see, this one is white.
