Sunrise After Storms

A powerful weather system moved through the midwestern U.S. on Sunday, spawning terrible storms, including tornado outbreaks. We were very fortunate in central Pennsylvania: we missed the brunt of it, but we did receive some very bad storms with tremendous winds late Sunday.

When I went to bed Sunday night, the wind was howling and pounding around our house like a freight train, or a wild animal. I lay huddled in bed, praying for the safety of our house, ourselves, those we love, and all of our creatures.

The following morning we awoke to dramatic dark clouds, but clearing skies. I do not think I was the only one, on this morning after the storms, to stand looking to the heavens, grateful and relieved to have made it safely through the night, waiting for the sun.

The soundtrack: The Doors, Waiting for the Sun.
