Gillipaw's Journal

Minaret

I haven't travelled abroad, just down the road, to Glasgow Central Mosque. Situated beside the River Clyde, on the south side.

Built in 1983, at a cost of £3 million, it can accommodate 2,500 worshippers. An interesting blend of Islamic architecture in red sandstone, which is a common feature in Glasgow buildings. The prayer space inside is huge, no columns, and an impressive dome bringing in the light on this blue sky day.
