I love the texture of hand carved wood - look at the adzing in this simple candle holder! It was made by Robert "Mouseman" Thompson, a Yorkshire oak furniture maker. It is said that he signed all his pieces with a mouse after he told someone that he was as poor as a church mouse. He was part of the wonderful British Arts & Crafts tradition that lives on in country manufacturers, including his own firm still being run by his descendants in Kilburn, North Yorkshire.
