Sandy dog

It was a raw cold morning, even Luke wearing gloves on the river and me bundled up in my warmest coat to stroll along the High Street while he rowed. I spotted a thin man crouched on the pavement, carving this dog out of sand using only a knife and a paintbrush. He spoke very little English, but could say that at home he made huge sculptures on the beach. He was making this model because 'Scotland people like dogs'. I asked him where he came from and he said 'Portugues'. His hands were red and cold. I wish him luck.
