Performance art #artparty2013

You don't often get performance art in Scarborough, but then I there's never been an Art Party conference, anywhere, before. So the Spa has been a hive of activity and creativity today as the first art event of its kind was held there today.
This is Leeds based artist Alex Dodgson who invited members of the public to throw paint on to his half naked body, as a piece of classic music played, making art on him and the backdrop. The paints merged to a shade of grey, with a few other paints adding literally splashes of colour.
Why? I don't know but it was oddly compelling to watch, and the whole event was an almost overwhelming blur of artistic creativity. As interesting as it was indulgent at times, the 'conference' was held to highlight the importance of art education, with talks including some big name artists going on around the art shows to discuss the subject, and particularly government cuts to education.
The art on show was sometimes puzzling, the buzz around the event undeniable, but the motive behind the day was very worthwhile.
