En-route to Kaikoura

Went for a beautiful walk before we left Picton today - on the Tirohanga track up behind the town. Started off having to ford a small but fairly deep stream in bare feet, then a steep climb uphill through beautiful bush (with boots back on!), culminating in a spectacular view from the top.

Back down in the town, picked up the car from our hostel and headed for Kaikoura on the east coast, heading west first via the scenic drive from Picton to Havelock, then south and east through Blenheim.

Absolutely stunning scenery along the east coast before we reached Kaikoura - we stopped on this beach to get some photos. Checked into Sails motel - with an incredibly friendly and helpful owner, Deb - then had a little explore of the local area and a delicious dinner at the Pier Hotel.
