Kenton Dene

Every day during the school run, I pass over what is called "Kenton Dene" although how the city council can get away with calling it a dene is beyond me - a dene is a steep sided valley through which a burn (stream/river) runs, and Kenton Dene has a few trees but no "burn" at all (except during intense rain/snowfall and the path that crosses it has a fast flowing mini river!).

Perhaps it is a case of trying to label something that is not - and in this case failing terribly. (Of course it could be that years ago there was a Kenton Dene, as there was a Kenton Quarry. So it isn't too hard to imagine an area 100 years ago being very different to today...)

But then a label means nothing, it is what you feel you are that counts...
