Rippingale Fen

I wandered onto the fen this morning to see if I could find anything to blip. All I saw was 3 kestrels, one heron (flying a long way away) and a couple of gulls.

This is one of the numerous bridges that cross small dykes criss-crossing the fens. The road to the left stretches almost 3 miles West to Rippingale almost in a straight line. Behind me the road continues for about another half-mile Eastwards to a pumping station, and this dyke joins a much wider one called South Forty Foot Drain. The road is running almost exactly from West to East (behind me) and at his point is only about 7ft above sea level even though it is about 20 miles to the Wash (our nearest bit of sea).
