The man from another planet

Vince Cable, minister in the Coalition Government gave a short talk at the University of East Anglia this evening in one of a series under the heading 'Too Difficult Box'.

Very proud of comrades from the Norwich/ Norfolk People's Assembly who got their points across loud and clear as part of the Q&A which followed his talk. His responses were, to say the least, feeble. He really does seem to be on another planet.

At the very end, when Charles Clarke (a former Home Secretary and now a visiting Fellow at UEA and chair of proceedings this evening) asked for people to thank Cable some people in the room clapped and many more shouted 'shame!' and other less polite things.

One woman shouted: 'what would you say to someone who can't afford to feed their children?' An elderly chap stood next to me said 'well done young woman! I was wondering about that!'.

That woman was Ellen, mum of the wonderful Myhren who spoke at the teachers day of action in the summer and someone I've been on several demos with. She flew out of her seat and ran to the front of the room to confront him. I was at the other side of the room and was convinced she had something in her bag that she was going to throw at him.

I haven't been able to contact her since the meeting.

Update: I heard from Ellen later in the evening and will be seeing her tonight (Tuesday). I don't think she was arrested.
