The DIY theme is clearly floors... the kitchen was first to have the old lino ripped up and replaced with ceramic tile. Yes, it'll be much easier to keep clean and yes, we'll destroy many more plates and glasses. Maybe it's a cunning ploy by +1/2 to get new flooring and a new set of plates. Hmmmm....
