U-Bahn München: 15/100 Fraunhoferstraße

Munich underground: 15/100 Fraunhoferstraße

Fraunhoferstraße underground station - #15 in my strictly alphabetical Munich underground station series. After the last, rather modernistic station at Frankfuerter Ring, today's station is of the standard 80's variety. Fraunhoferstraße station was opened in 1980 and shares a lot of features with the other stations opened that year. What makes it somewhat special, though, are the two rows of broad, shiny yellow pillars and the rather wide platform between them. This is necessary due to the proximity to the river Isar, which the tunnel passes right after the station.

I normally try to get the stations completely empty and therefore go there just before midnight. In this case, however, this approach wasn't very fruitful, as the neighbourhood above ground is Munich's nightlife district and the station is always frequented by people going to or coming from some kind of bar.

Of course it's another long exposure without tripod. The train that is rushing out of the station is a Central Station bound U1 train.

In season related news, the first snow arrived today and the temperatures are well below freezing point. Biking is still a lot kind of fun, though.
