Mosaic

Clasped in the folds of two embracing floods
Compassed by gentle hills and rising woods.

This pebble mosaic symbolises the position of the old town of Dalkeith lying on a ridge between two rivers which meet nearby, forming the River Esk and then flowing out to sea about 3 miles further at Musselburgh. On the way the rivers pass through Dalkeith Park enclosing the ancient oak woodland which has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
