Picnic at Walton Pond, Walton, Aylesbury

This is the duck pond at Walton, which is just around the corner from where I live.

There has been a pond here forever & was the village pond long before it became a suburb of Aylesbury.

The name Walton still remains in the locale; Walton Road, Walton Street, Walton Dene, Walton Green etc etc. There was a large medieval house which stood just to the left of this picture. Unfortunately during the war it took a direct hit from a German landmine which blew it to smithereens, the houses opposite faired better but were severely damaged & repaired.

The house was replaced by the girls High School and there are hints of its existence as the boundary wall of Walton Grange as it was called can still be seen along Walton Road.

Just further on down the Wendover Road is the spot where two Turnpikes intersected.

In the early 1930s another large house "Walton Grove" was demolished to make way for a small (select !)development of semi-detached houses called Walton Dene. It remains a lovely place to live to this day...apart from the commuter parking.........

Peter is still moving stuff, though a lot went last night, ably shifted by Dave, Myles, Stuart & Peter. I left there at 1800hrs last night whilst C didn't get in til almost 2100hrs.

This am I took a car load of stuff around to T's which made me feel slightly uncomfortable especially when her friend S removed all the stuff. I was only there 5mins !

Went to the docs this pm but haven't been to P's today-will look in on him tonight after the army of helpers have gone. C has done a casserole so P can join me if he wants. C is on the razzle tonight in Chipping Norton.

Its been a dull grey day today but very mild for the time of year.
