Grey Wagtail

On the 19th October, I wrote about curious bird names and this strikes me as another. Grey has too many connotations of dull and drab but this little beauty certainly wasn't dull. Grey Wagtails are the classic bird of streams - or indeed any running water. This one chose to enjoy the clogged up water feature of the garden here. Wagtails have good eye-sight and normally manage to avoid mist-nets. Clearly this one - a bird of the year - wasn't careful enough.
