Shapes and textures and colours

I thought the main lawn in the Linda Vista Gardens was particularly striking today. Whether whoever decided on the planting thought about the effect the shapes and textures and colours would make to any degree, I don't know, but it worked!

We planted a black mulberry today. It is grown from a side shoot of the original black mulberry planted by the Mayor four years ago, which died, save for this tiny shoot coming up from the base, which we thought was from below a graft-line and therefore of the root-stock. But Paddy, one of the Friends of Linda Vista took it and nurtured it, and it seems to have come true and is now a sturdy sapling of about four foot high. We replaced the origianal when it died, but the replacement also failed. Let us hope this chap stays the course, and in four or five years time, we can pick mulberries!
