Building Sn3 and N Worlds

A couple of yard buildings for Dolores, CO

Yesterday I finally located and glued down a couple of yard buildings I had made for Dolores. The one on the left is a model of an old box car that has been turned into a storage building. The one on the right is a section car shed with a tool shed attached. The box car was a kit from Banta, now available from PBL.com. The section car shed is a model made from resin castings, which give great small detail, and was from The Cinnamon Works - makers of great small highly detailed structures. Both of these buildings were actually there in Dolores - just not exactly where I put them. Modeler's License.

I have gotten started on the bushes and trees behind these buildings. I use a product called poly fiber from Woodland Scenics - sort of a wispy stretchy mat sort of like a Brillo pad. You pull it apart, spray with non-scented hair spray, drop on some ground foam and you have a bush. The idea is to match the color of the foliage in the backdrop photo with the ground foam. Then add smaller bushes in front. When viewed from the front at sitting eye level, it helps disguise the photo and where it meets the flat table.

I have to wait now for more bushes as I did not have the right grey-green ground foam that matches part of the photo - but it is on the way.
