The Artist Within

“Believe you can and you're halfway there.”
- Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919); 26th U.S. President

The buzz today was the Studio Art Self Portrait exhibition in Marble Hall. It is the first time that this year's Foundation Art elective students (mostly Grade 11) have had their work exhibited in a public space and the excitement was tangible. I do this particular exhibition every December, not least because creating an art-work - especially something so personal as a self portrait - that the rest of the school community wants to look at is such as boost for students' self confidence that artistic and creative success for the rest of the year is pretty much guaranteed. Watching their response to the general acclaim is a moment to treasure. Love it - what a job I have :)

“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.”
- Albert Einstein (1875-1955), theoretical physicist, philosopher
