Frozen River

La Gryonne, flows from the distant mountain into the Rhone River. At this point it is controlled by a series of weirs to slow it down to stop erosion when the river is in full spate. Now it is the temperature that is really slowing it down, the upper stream will be completely frozen as the temperature has been under 0 degrees for days now.

The south facing bank of the river gets the morning sun which melts the snow, while the north facing bank stays ice covered for the whole winter.

Yesterday's swans emerging from the mist became my most "favourited" photo, I can't THANK YOU enough for your enthusiasm!
