Magnesium Limestone

MONDAY

A walk through the streets of York this evening.

York Minster's Stoneyard is responsible for conserving and replacing nearly 3,500 stones on the East End for the York Minster Revealed project as well as maintaining the Minster and its grounds.

The Stonemasons are a skilled group of masons and carvers that still use the same tradional skills to adorn the Minster today as they would of done centuries ago.

Magnesium limestone is used on the Minster as this is a hardwearing stone and today the stone is sourced from a  quarry in Tadcaster.
