Day 62 – Underground Walkways, Montreal

The weather was awful today and we got caught in a torrential downpour. So we decided to give up on our plans for the day and explore the vast network of underground tunnels beneath the city of Montreal. In the heat of summer or the depths of winter it is possible to get to most places within the area without going outside, or above ground. The network started in the late 60’s and 70’s and is still being added to today, with the most recent addition in place in 2011. The tunnels connect everything from train stations to shops, to hotels, to offices, to the university.
