46664

By accident I'm on a similar theme to yesterday although I would prefer not to be!

This time the tributes starting to appear are for Nelson Mandela, and appropriately they are being placed around Nelson Mandela Place in Glasgow.

The number comes from him being the 466th Prisoner on Robben Island in the year 1964 and was give the title Prisoner 46664. The number was then used for an Aids Charity and for a series of concerts. There is also a song which you can find on Youtube.

He had a strong bond with the city. In a speech at the City Chambers in Glasgow in 1993, he said: "While we were physically denied our freedom in the country of our birth, a city 6,000 miles away, and as renowned as Glasgow, refused to accept the legitimacy of the apartheid system, and declared us to be free."
