Not quite felled

This Poplar tree has been in our garden for as long as we have been here and was probably here before the house was built. Over the years, it has got far too big, unwieldy to the point of being dangerous and has been taking shade from several gardens, as well as our own. So something had to be done. Being in a conservation area we had to apply for planning permission to do anything with it. In the end we were given consent to take it down altogether, but we decided to keep it and have it professionally cut down to a manageable size.

So here is the local Tree Surgeon high up in the tree. In the picture he is taking off side branches before cutting the main trunk right down. Fascinating watching him, so skilful.

And now the birds still have the tree they use for food and shelter, whilst we have more light . . . and lots of wood for the stove!
