Yarmouth Belle at Richmond

We had a little walk up the river from Richmond today. Quite a dull day, but it was the lull before the oncoming storm over the next few days. Up at Ham House the Yarmouth Belle steamed by looking very smart with her little fake freewheels running happily at the sides, but contributing nothing at all to her progress.

We had noticed the high water and the incoming tide which stalled to a mirrored standstill during our walk. However, the continuing addition of water from the river flow stacked it up another couple of feet and it broke the banks and flooded the footpath backing up the tributaries and flooding the meadows. We had to divert back to the Land Rover to find her standing at the water's edge waiting for a nice wade and water splash to get her out. A few more inches and I'd have had to have got my feet wet.
