coypu and young

The coypu was introduced into Europe for its fur in the 19th century.

It is an invasive species, i e one which threatens the biodiversity of the ecosystems which it is introduced, and its extensive burrowing activity is responsible for undermining the banks of rivers and canals.

It is nonetheless an elegant creature and a delight to observe.

Photographed in Normandy, at the observatory at Les Ponts d'Ouve
