Village Windmill, Nieuwe Tonge

I was actually looking for an attractive clump of trees on the N59 and ended up with this windmill. A much better day than yesterday. Funny, though, how what you find out within a 24-hour time span can knock you off your horse. No, not funny ... more like surreal. The further you go from the past, the more objectively you can look at it ... and the more you realize there's no going back.

This windmill was built in 1768 and is called 'De Oranjeboom' (sounds like 'Oranyebome'), which means 'orange tree', referring to the House of Orange-Nassau, our royal house. I don't believe it's connected in any way with the royal house, though, but that doesn't matter. A nice name is a nice name. :)
