Great Blue Heron

Although the weather conditions were less than ideal (just a few degrees above freezing, raining, and a little wind) I ventured down to Mackay Island National Wildlife Refuge in North Carolina to take advantage of their Open Road Days this weekend. Roads that are normally closed to the public were opened. There were plenty of migratory waterfowl. I saw tundra swans, a variety of ducks, cormorants, kingfishers, and egrets. There was an abundance of Great Blue Herons.
