Where Santa?

Today was our long awaited Glasgow Santa Dash 2013. This is one of the highlights of the year. The day begins by getting into our running gear, complete with beard and hat. The journey in to town involves Santa spotting! honking of horns and waving. It must be a bit surreal for anyone not in the know as thousands of Santas of all shapes and sizes, even baby Santas in prams descend on George Square from all directions.

The next highlight is getting into line to begin the warm up. Can you imaging a sea of dancing, bouncing and singing Santas all waving our arms in the air to loud music. Then it's the horn announcing the start....and we are off. It takes us a while to get across the start line and soon the line stretches out in front and behind us as far as the eye can see. Amazing 3500 Santas a sea of red and white.

We make our way uphill on St Vincent Street and many early starters soon run out of energy and we have to weave in and out of them. We pass several Santas, many running for charities with messages or their names on their backs, baby Santas in prams being pushed by their adult Santas and a couple of dogs on leads, one dressed as the Grinch and another with antlers.

It was very warm today and Danny and I were overheating from the suit, hat and beard. At about half way we decided to remove our trousers, fortunately we had shorts on. What a relief. We finished the 5K city centre run all three of us together. Yippee another year under our Santa belts. Here's to next year.
