Egon Schiele--No: Haiti

When I first saw this image this morning of a hillside in a town in Haiti in our newspaper, it immediately recalled paintings by Egon Schiele that I'd just seen on our recent visit to Haiti* Vienna. When I looked for similar images on the web--here's one, I realized the correspondence was far from exact--but I still find it striking (and some images by Gustav Klimt also evoke the same feeling.)

For a more precise web version of this image than my shot of the paper itself, see this opinion piece on Haiti by Nicholas Kristof, which argues that aid from abroad with local connections can really make a difference.

*I wrote Haiti last night--too much time in bed, I guess.
