J.D. Fergusson - by a head

I was in Perth today and visited the Fergusson Gallery, which is housed in the town's old waterworks by the banks of the River Tay.

It's a really nice place to visit if you're in Perth and find yourself at a loose end. Got a nice wee arty play area for kids too.

I love the work of the Scottish Colourist, J.D. Fergusson, but I especially love his sculptures. He made a number of versions of this lady, Eastre. His paintings are also very sculptural.

A major new exhibition of Fergusson's work opened in Edinburgh last weekend at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art (Modern Two).

Someone else managed to bag writing about it at The Herald, but I'm very much looking forward to seeing it.

The exhibition is part of the Scottish Colourist Series, which has already covered Cadell and Peploe.

I met a man in Perth today who said he'd been to see the Peploe show 19 times!! But, he added, Fergusson is his true passion!
