Propyläen

Propylaea

The second blip from Königsplatz within only ten days (the first one is here). This time the Propylaea are in the focus. The construction of the structure had begun in 1854 and was completed in 1862. The Propylaea were the most representative royal city gate (although Munich had already outgrown Königsplatz in the year of completion). It was built in commemoration of the Greek War of Independence 1821-1837 and Prince Otto of Bavaria, who became the first modern king of Greece in 1832.
