Smouldering embers

It's been a week of wood related blips...

Monday was "The Puzzled Tree".
Tuesday was driftwood on the beach.

Today it's smouldering embers.

We always let the fire die down and go out when we retire to bed ... always, always putting the fire guard up no matter how "out" it looks. I was cleaning out the grate at 3.00pm ready to lay a new fire for tonight and picked this up. It crackled slightly and was a tad too warm to comfortably hold. I broke it open after taking the photo and it was smouldering away inside. I guess that's how fires can re ignite.
