Dancing Queen

Today has been a tough day.

We laid Nan to rest and as you might expect there were plenty of tears and hugs throughout, but as a family we came together and pulled each other through it.

The shock of the suddenness of her passing is beginning to fade and sadness pervades, but it too will ease in time.

I was pleased to have been able to finish the speech/tribute I'd written for Nan (with more than a little help from my fellow grandchildren), but wasn't able to stop the tears from flowing at certain points throughout. Everybody was very nice about it though.

I did have a bit of a wry smile when the service opened with Elvis' “The Wonder of You” and closed with Abba's “Dancing Queen” both of which were inspired choices of music.

Despite the circumstances, it was lovely seeing my family and having a little time to hug them and have a quick catch up as well as meeting members of the extended family for the first time too.

Then it was back to the pub for a drink and some food whilst m'boy kept everyone entertained by toddling about, eating copious amounts of food from and even having a sneaky sip of Daddy's beer!

By the end I think we were all emotionally drained, but it was nice to finish the day surrounded by family and indulging in one of Nan's favourite past times: playing cards.
