Learning the art of Balance

South Perth is just cockatoo heaven right now! Especially for red-tail blacks. There is a family, consisting of mum, dad and one juvenile consistently hanging around at my local dog park every morning and afternoon at the moment.

I managed to capture a few shots of the juvenile in this Cape Lilac tree this morning, while I was collecting some browse for our red-tail in hospital at the moment. Interestingly the Cape Lilac tree is a non-native tree that is actually toxic and hence most animals and birds won't eat the leaves or berries it produces, but I've witnessed the red-tails regularly eating the berries once they turn a light orange colour. I wonder if it is only toxic at certain stages or if they just have some sort of immunity to it?

It was fun to watch the juvenile clambering around the branches rather clumsily. Young parrots are not particularly graceful and it takes awhile for them to perfect their poise and balance!

Heading out tonight in Fremantle. Going to see an up and coming talented musician called Jordan McRobbie. If you know of and like John Butler Trio then you will definitely like Jordan! Awesome singer and guitarist, should be a good night!
